Cat Treats Recalled Due to Chemical Contamination

The solvent could cause a loss of coordination, muscle twitching, and excessive urination and thirst.

Blue Buffalo Company has voluntarily recalled Kitty Yums Chicken Recipe Cat Treats because they contain propylene glycol, a solvent not approved for pet food, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The treats were sold in 2 oz., plastic stand up pouches. Only these specific code dates of this product are involved:

  • Blue Kitty Yums Tasty Chicken Recipe, UPC: 859610007820 - Best If Used By: July 24, 2016.

No other pet foods or treats are affected by the recall.

According to the FDA, cats or kittens that consume propylene glycol “may exhibit signs of depression and may have a loss of coordination, muscle twitching, and excessive urination and thirst. If your cat has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.”

The treats were distributed nationwide and in Canada, and were sold online. If you purchased them, return the packages to the place you bought them for a full refund.
