Foothill High Students Awarded Scholarships from Pleasanton North Rotary
The graduates were presented with certificates during an awards ceremony on June.
They were presented scholarship certificates during award ceremonies June 4 at Foothill High.
Haley Lukas received the 2014 Stephen Parker Memorial Scholarship. It is dedicated to memory of the 1979 graduate of Pleasanton Foothill High School. Lukas was an extraordinary student-athlete. She was captain of the variety women’s soccer and track and field teams as a senior and gained community service experience by working with special needs students. She plans to enter the pre-law program at the University of California, Berkeley in September.
Katrina Zhu was presented the 2014 Chuck Pickens Memorial Scholarship, named for PNR’s first president. Zhu was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist in her senior year and Foothill’s California Scholarship Federation Club president as a junior and senior. She plans to attend Duke University in Durham, NC, to major in chemistry or mechanical engineering with a possible minor in political science. Zhu looks forward to participating Duke Engage, a summer program involving direct help for underprivileged children in a selected Third World country.
Hayley Do was singled out for a Robin Barnett Scholarship. It celebrates the life and work of Robin Barnett, a former teacher at Foothill High School. Do was academically outstanding during her three years at Foothill. She was active in community service including participation in the Foothill Interact Club, a community-service program, sponsored by PNR. She was a recipient of a 2013 Rotary Youth Leadership Award and was active in peer-to-peer tutoring programs and volunteer work at the Pleasanton Public Library. Do plans to major in biochemistry in college leading toward a possible career as a physician’s assistant.
