Second Phase of Bernal Community Park Community Park Opening Saturday
Phase II will kick off with games, sports league information and snacks.
PLEASANTON, CA — The grand opening of Phase II of Pleasanton's Bernal Community Park, including a new sports complex and oak woodland area, will take place this weekend, city officials said. The new part of the park south of Bernal Avenue will open at 9 a.m. Saturday, with a dedication ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Among the new additions to the park are synthetic sports fields in the new Patelco Sports Complex, including one named the Stanford Children's Health Stadium Field.
The 54-acre park will also now include nearly 40 acres of oak woodland area, according to city officials.
"We're thrilled with the opening of the second phase of this park, which has something for everyone," Pleasanton City Manager Nelson Fialho said in a statement. "In addition to the dedication of the Council and the wonderful community partnerships we've formed, we've also been able to achieve our community's strong desire for more outdoor space and do it all in an environmentally sustainable way," Fialho said.

The Pleasanton City Council began planning the park 16 years ago, city officials said. Nine local sports group founded the Play Bernal Campaign last year, raising $2 million to develop the sports complex, with sponsorships from Patelco Credit Union and Stanford Children's Health.
"We are thrilled for our kids to begin play at this amazing new sports complex. We wish to thank the residents of Pleasanton and the city of Pleasanton for supporting youth sports in the first phases of development at
the Bernal property," Jon Asmussen, chair of the Play Bernal Campaign, said in a statement.
