Officials Investigating Fatal Train Collision Involving 'Trespasser on Tracks' in Pleasanton

Police believe the train fatality was likely a suicide. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Updated at 11:04 p.m. with statement from Pleasanton Police:

On May 30, 2014 at approximately 7:33 p.m. the Pleasanton Police Department responded to calls of a person struck by an ACE (Altamont Corridor Express) train at the Santa Rita Road railroad crossing. 

Officers arrived and located a black male adult deceased on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Police Detectives are working in cooperation with the Union Pacific Railroad Police and ACE representatives. 

The initial investigation indicates this was an apparent suicide. The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time.

ACE Train officials have confirmed  via the comments section on their Facebook page that they are currently investigating a fatal train collision in Pleasanton. 

ACE Train spokesperson Errol Schmall told Patch, via email:

"At approximately 7:30 PM ACE Train #10 was involved in a fatality with a trespasser on the UP [Union Pacific] railroad tracks near the intersection of Santa Rita in Pleasanton, CA. No passengers or train crew were hurt in the accident. It is still an ongoing investigation with Union Pacific and Pleasanton authorities on scene. Passengers were transported by bus from the Pleasanton to Stockton, CA."

Around 9:20 p.m., ACE posted the following information on their Facebook page:

Altamont Corridor Express There was an unfortunate fatality with a trespasser on the tracks in the Pleasanton area. That's all the information that we currently have at this time until a full investigation is conducted.


Pleasanton Police released a Nixle Alert at 9 p.m. diverting traffic away from the area of Santa Rita Road between Amador High School and Del Valle Parkway for the investigation. 

Police ask drivers to avoid the area for the duration of the investigation.
