Two Elderly People Die in Highway 67 Crash Friday

The Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed that two people in their 70s died in an accident on state Route 67 in Ramona on Friday. Their town of residence has not yet been reported. The multi-vehicle crash also took the lives of two men from Poway and San Diego, and injuried three other people, according to the Highway Patrol.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened at about 10 a.m. just south of Rock House Road, near Mt. Woodson under foggy and drizzly conditions.

A green Chevy 1500 Silverado in the northbound lane crossed the yellow divider line and hit a southbound silver Camry and blue Corolla head on, CHP reported.

The 78-year-old white male driver and 74-year-old female passenger of the Camry were restrained in seat belts but were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, without medical intervention, according to the Medical Examiner's report.

The 20-year-old driver of the truck—from Poway—and his 34-year-old male passenger from San Diego also were pronounced dead at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Brian Pennings.

The names of the decedents have not yet been released pending notification of legal next of kin.

A woman passenger in the truck and the female driver and 5-year-old passenger of the Corolla were transported to a nearby hospital. Their conditions were described by various CHP and Cal Fire spokespersons as ranging from minor to critical on Friday, so it is unclear what each individual's condition is at the time of this report.
