Burglary Averted? Prowler Interrupted by Housesitter

Woman hears noises outside. Did she foil another burglary of an unoccupied home in Rancho Santa Margarita?

Burglary Averted? Prowler Interrupted by Housesitter

A prowler outside a Rancho Santa Margarita home was apparently scared away when an early riser interrupted him.

According to the Orange County Sheriff Department blotter, a woman who was housesitting at a residence on Morning Glory heard footsteps on the driveway Wednesday morning about 5:30 a.m.

In addition to the footsteps, she heard rustling and noise in the bushes, and the side gate to the house being jiggled.

The woman turned on a porch light, then heard a planter being kicked—or maybe tripped over—and someone walking away.

There have been several burglaries in Rancho Santa Margarita over the last couple of months, usually involving homes that were unoccupied. Save for the housesitter, this home would have been unoccupied as well.

The call came in at 5:34 a.m.
