A Highland teenager was shot and injured Saturday by police during a domestic disturbance call, authorities said.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when family members called Highland police to report a domestic disturbance at the 7400 block of Rogers Lane.
When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy wielding a hammer. After repeatedly asking the boy to drop the weapon, he reportedly made move toward officers and an officer shot the boy, injuring him.
When asked why he didn't obey police commands, the youth reportedly told police he wanted to die.
The teen's injuries were not life-threatening and he was transported to a local area hospital for surgeries.
No deputies were hurt during the incident.
