As Temperature Soar, Power Outages Affect Parts of South Bay, Westside

Southern California Edison does not know when power would be restored.

TORRANCE, CA - Scattered power outages were reported across Southern California, as temperatures approached 115 in some areas.

Southern California Edison experienced a number of outages because of the high heat.

In Brea, police said about 1,600 homes were blacked out Sunday afternoon. Edison officials said the power went out at 1:45 and did not have an estimated repair time.

Brea police said a cooling station had been opened at the Brea Community Center, as temperatures of 105 were reported in nearby Fullerton.

In Compton, 223 customers lost power shortly after 3 p.m. due to an equipment failure caused by the extreme heat, according to SCE officials. Power was expected to be fully restored by 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Twenty customers suffered outages in Torrance about 3;15 p.m. because of equipment problems and electricity was expected to be restored by about 7 p.m. tonight, according to SCE officials.

Twelve customer lost power in Long Beach around 3 p.m. and their power was expected to return by 3 a.m. Monday, according to SCE.

A total of 1,015 accounts in West Covina lost power as well as 79 accounts in Culver City, according to SCE.

In Orange County, 17 customers lost electricity in Stanton. Their power was expected to be restored by 1 a.m. In Santa Ana 38 people were without power, which was expected to be restored by 11:30 p.m. A total of 351 people were in the dark in Orange and 81 people in Mission Viejo.

Power in Orange was expected back on by 12:30 a.m. Monday and by 11:30 p.m in Mission Viejo, according to SCE.
