A fatal hit-and-run crash blocked U.S. Highway 101 in Menlo Park for nearly three hours Sunday morning.

Officers responded to reports of a crash at about 5:40 a.m. near Marsh Road, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Art Montiel said.

Preliminary reports indicate that a red Honda Civic was traveling south when it was rear ended by a 1960s or 1970s pickup truck, Montiel said.

The Honda stopped in a center lane and was struck a second time by a taxicab, Montiel said.

The Honda sustained severe damage and the driver was killed, Montiel said.

The pickup truck fled the scene.

The roadway was blocked until 9 a.m. while emergency responders cleared the crash.

CHP issued a press release stating it would be holding a press conference Sunday evening in an attempt to locate the suspect responsible for the hit-and-run crash.

Anyone with information regarding the crash or the suspect vehicle  should call 9-1-1.
