DreamWorks Opens New Building in Redwood City

DreamWorks opens a new 200,000 square foot facility in Redwood City in an attempt to get animators under one roof.

DreamWorks Opens New Building in Redwood City

DreamWorks animation opened a state-of-the art facility in Redwood City last Thursday in order to get artists and technical workers all under one roof.

DreamWorks currently employs over 600 people in its Redwood City location, though the company is headquartered in Glendale, California.

With the new facility will come the hiring of around 200 new workers, according to Studio Head Gail Currey.

"Right now we're looking at a lot of technology people to come in, but over the course of the next few years we're also looking at a lot of artists," Currey told ABC 7 News.

DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenburg also praised the facility, calling it “a dream come true.”

Employees will enjoy a host of perks, including a screening room, free meals and even a doctor’s office.

Redwood City Mayor Alicia Aguirre joined a group of local political leaders at the opening ceremony.

"Congratulations to all of you for your ongoing commitment to Redwood City," said Aguirre.
