We can’t guarantee you a partridge in a pear tree, but here are 12 holiday events that you can celebrate on 12 days before Christmas.

The time of year for local holiday happenings is here! Redwood City Patch has compiled the following list of the Top 12 Holiday Events that are happening in town.

1. Hometown Holidays Festival & Fireworks Show

December 3, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm

Where: , 2200 Broadway

The , this year’s Annual Children’s Festival and Fireworks Show, hosted by Redwood City’s Downtown Business group is taking place the first Saturday of December.  They have a parade, entertainment, Santa Claus, and for the grand finale, a fireworks show and late night Holiday Movie!

There is free admission and it’s held Rain or Shine.

2. Holiday Skating on the Square

Dec. 1 through Jan. 16, 2pm-9pm Mon-Thurs. 2pm-10pm Fridays, Noon to 10pm Saturdays, Noon to 8pm Sundays

Where: Courthouse Square, 2200 Broadway

In case you haven’t noticed the in Courthouse Square, you should definitely stop by! This is the first year Redwood City has offered Holiday skating and it is a fun and festive way to heighten the Holiday season for kids of all ages.

3. “Food for Fines,” Pay Off Your Library Fines with a Donation!

Now till Dec. 29

Where: Redwood City libraries, or any of the San Mateo County 12 library branches

The Redwood City Public Library, in partnership with the San Mateo County Library, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, and Second Harvest Food Bank, presents a unique way to both , and build community by donating food to those in need. The second annual “Food-for-Fines” program allows library patrons to pay-off their library fines by donating food through December 29.

Each library has a special Second Harvest Food Bank bin where donated food items can be placed. Please note that food donations as part of the Food for Fines program cannot be applied towards the cost of lost or damaged library items, unique collection items, or printing fees. The program is only valid for fines and fees of to San Mateo County Libraries and Redwood City Libraries. Libraries can accept only store-sealed items, and cannot accept glass containers.


4. Trees of Joy Event

Saturday, Dec. 3, 9:00am – 2:00pm

Where: , 2600 Middlefield Road

Teri Chin, Human Services Manager, for the City of Redwood City, stated that “The Trees of Joy Event is a “Christmas tree give away.” Five hundred local families are pre-selected to receive the trees.  The Silicon Valley Families Care organization has worked in partnership with the Fair Oaks Community Center, St. Francis Center, Peninsula Service, and Redwood City schools, and the Lel Concilio of San Mateo County, to provide this event for the past five years.


5. The St. Pius Women’s Club Annual Holiday Boutique

Sunday, December 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: - Fitzsimon Center, 1100 Woodside Road

This festive holiday boutique helps raise funds to support the St. Pius Parish Community through social events, service, and charity. You’ll find lots of gift ideas from the great variety of quality items such as clothing, jewelry, home decorator items, holiday decorations and gifts. And this year it features a wide range of vendors


6. Fair Trade Chocolate and Divine Fudge Tasting, Dec. 5, 7pm

Where: , 1044 Middlefield Road, Community Room

The Sierra Club welcomes the public to come and enjoy a sampling of local chocolate delicacies, including fudge!  Who can say no to chocolate.  A $5 Donation is appreciated.

7. Movies at the Library “A Christmas Story” Dec. 7, 6:30pm

8. , Dec. 10, 7 pm                                           

Where: , 2223 Broadway Street

Though the Fox Theatre performance kicked off last night you can still see additional performances of the Nutcracker Ballet performed by the Peninsula Ballet Theater on Dec. 10, at 7pm, Dec.11, at 2pm, Dec. 17, at 4pm, and Dec. 18, at 2pm.

Ballet America presents this hometown favorite each year and this year is no different. Children can enjoy dressing up as Nutcracker characters in the lobby during intermission and after the performance, they are invited to come backstage and meet the dancers.


9Redwood City’s PAL Toy and Book Drive Wrapping Party

Monday, Dec. 12, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Where: , 1120 Roosevelt Avenue

The is “a really collaborative effort” stated Teri Chin, Human Services Manager, for the City of Redwood City.  “We expect to serve 500 families this year.”

The is a community event that everyone is encouraged to take part in.  The wrapped gifts are hand delivered by Santa to the families homes’ between December 14, 15, and 16.


10.  Friends of the Library Holiday Sale Plus Santa Visits the Library

Wednesday, Dec. 14, 6:00pm – 8:00pm

The Friends' Holiday Sale continues – the perfect place to find wonderful holiday gifts for friends and family!

The Friends’ bookstore, the countertop by the window, plus a special sale cart are all filled with Holiday-themed books and 'like new' quality books perfect for gifting. Lots of children's books and plenty of fun items for adults. A Sale Cart was recently stocked with great gifts including Harry Potter, Shel Silverstein, American Girl, Lemony Snicket, Narnia and more! Come to the Friends’ Bookstore at the Downtown Library for the best selection. 

SPECIAL TREAT: Santa will be at the Downtown Library between 6 and 8 pm. and the Friends will be selling kids' books in the lobby during his visit. We have reserved Christmas children's books and videos for this special sale. Great way for your kids or grandkids to visit Santa without traveling to the mall – and it’s fun for all!
