Sonoma and Mendocino county residents may drop off their unwanted medicine during the week of Sept. 17 to 22 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at a participating drop-off location.
The “Safe Medicine Round Up Week” includes seven locations:
Monday, Sept. 17 - Guerneville Veterans Building, Church & First Streets
Tuesday, Sept. 18 - Alliance Medical Center, 8465 Old Redwood Hwy
Wednesday, Sept. 19 - Vintage House, 264 1st St. East
Thursday, Sept. 20 - Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Dr. #A
Friday, Sept. 21 - Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility, 3890 Cypress Dr.
Friday, Sept. 21- Ukiah Senior Center, 499 Leslie St.
Saturday, Sept.22 - Alliance Medical Center, 1381 University Ave.
“The Safe Medicine Round Up Week is a great opportunity for our community to responsibly and safely get rid of unwanted medications,” said Water Agency Director and County Supervisor Valerie Brown.
“By properly disposing of medication, we can keep our environment and waterways clean, and reduce safety and health risks associated with children or adults taking non-prescribed medications.”
A list of year round participating drop-off locations may be viewed online at www.safemedicinedisposal.org. There is no charge to participants returning medicine or to the locations accepting medications. Funding for this program has been provided by the City of Santa Rosa, Sonoma County Water Agency and Russian River Watershed Association.
Items accepted at the drop off locations include:
◦Prescription and over-the-counter -pills and capsules
◦Liquid medications, including ointments, lotions and creams (in sealed containers please!)
◦Vitamins, supplements, homeopathic remedies
Items not Accepted:
◦Bloody or infectious waste
◦Personal care products (body lotion, shampoo etc.)
◦Epi-pens and other needles/sharps
◦Any other waste or medication not listed under “Items Accepted”
