Four seniors on Friday commited to attend colleges in Oregon, Iowa and South Dakota.

Dimitri Cranshaw and Jacob Woehler will play baseball for George Fox University in Oregon, Tanner Nissen will play basketball for Northwestern College Iowa, and Matt Donlan will play basketball for South Dakota State University. They signed letters of intent at a rally Friday morning.

"We're thrilled with where these guys are going," Athletic Director Suzanne Baker said. "I just wish they weren't so far away so we could go support and watch them."

Baseball coach praises standout players

Head Baseball Coach Nelson Randolph said when Dimitri first came to Capital, he was "very raw and very green" in terms of his baseball skills.

"The scary thing is he's just now getting into his own," Randolph said of the centerfielder. "He's one of the fastest men in the area."

As for first-baseman Jacob, Randolph recalled seeing him as a middle-schooler hitting plastic golf balls with his father.

"I looked at his swing and I said I can't wait until he plays [baseball] with me," Randolph said.

The coach said he brought Jacob up to the varsity baseball team as a freshman.

"He was the key reason why we won the CIF championship his freshman year," Randolph said.

Basketball stars explain college choices

Tanner said his experience at Capital convinced him he wanted to attend a small college.

"Even though it's far away and cold and everything ... it felt like home and it felt like God was calling me to be there," he said.

Matt said he was glad the is over and he knows where he'll be in the fall.

"They're going to be really good next year and I want to be part of that," Matt said.
