Authorities Taser and Arrest Man in Backyard

Authorities incapacitated a man with a Taser and arrested him last week in Rosemont after they say he tried to flee and didn't comply with their orders.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department received a call of a man "acting strange" on the afternoon of Jan. 11, the department said in a crime log. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials also responded to the scene, and followed the man into a backyard on South Port Drive, the crime log states.

When deputies arrived, they found 28-year-old Sergey Chernenko "hiding behind a bush, under a tree," according to the crime log.

The crime log states that Chernenko "tried to flee from officers, and would not stop or show officers his hands when commanded to do so."

He was then shot with a Taser and arrested on a misdemeanor charge of resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said Chernenko was released and cited the following day.

"It was initially believed that the suspect was under the influence of some kind of narcotic or controlled substance," Ramos said in an email. "Officers have since learned that he has a disability that likely was the reason for his erratic behavior."

Ramos said the residence in the 3500 block of South Port Drive, where the incident occurred, was not Chernenko's home.
