Murder Suspect to Appear in Court

Young man suspected of killing father last week in Rosemont to attend settlement conference.

Murder Suspect to Appear in Court

The young man suspected of killing his father in a Rosemont apartment last week will be in court Thursday for a settlement conference.

Daniel David Cartwright, who turned 18 only days before allegedly shooting his father in the upper body, is being held in the Sacramento County jail without bail. He's been charged with murder, and is being represented by a public defender.

The victim, 40-year-old Richard Allen Cartwright, was found dead inside an upstairs apartment Nov. 6, at the Monte Bello Apartments on South Watt Avenue. His son reportedly waited several hours before he phoned the crime into authorities, and surrendered upon their arrival.

The reason for the delay, as well as motive for the crime, remain unclear. A settlement conference is a meeting between the prosecution and defense, at which they try to reach an agreement/resolution without having to go to trial.

His hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in department 62.
