Two Folsom Boulevard Cell Phone Thefts End in Assaults

Authorities say in two separate incidents, victims chased after thieves and were assaulted.

Two Folsom Boulevard Cell Phone Thefts End in Assaults

Two separate incidents on Folsom Boulevard began with cell phones being stolen and ended with the victims being assaulted, sheriff's officials announced Tuesday.

In the first, an iPhone was taken by force around 10 a.m. on Jan. 23 from a man at the light rail station at Tiber Drive and Folsom Boulevard. The suspect fled on foot and the victim gave chase, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department crime log.

The suspect disappeared over a fence, and the victim "armed himself with a pocketknife and confronted three additional subjects who were seen with [the suspect] on the train," the crime log stated.

Two of the additional suspects "threw several large rocks at [the victim] striking and damaging his bicycle as [he] tried to flee," the department stated.

Man Hospitalized After Chasing Alleged Thieves

In the second incident, three unknown men exited a minivan and approached a teen girl around 5 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of M & M Liquor on Folsom Boulevard. One of the men snatched a cell phone from the girl's back pocket and the three ran, the crime log states.

Two men who were with the teen girl gave chase, one of them armed with a pocketknife, according to the crime log. The fleeing suspects stopped, and one announced they had guns, the department stated.

"When [the two pursuing men] stopped chasing them, [one of the suspects] picked up a brick and threw it at [one of the victims], hitting him in the head causing injury," the crime log stated. "Then all three suspects approached [the two victims] and started assaulting them. [They] were punched several times before being able to flee."

As the victims fled, one of the suspects stole their bicycle, the crime log states. They ran into nearby businesses to escape the alleged thieves. The victim who was hit with the brick was taken to an area hospital and treated for his injuries.

In both incidents, descriptions of the suspects were limited. In the first, all four suspects were described as black males, 18 to 22 years old standing 5-foot-9 to 6-feet and weighing between 150 and 165 pounds. In the second, the suspects were described this way:

  • Suspect 1: 23-year-old black male, 5-foot-10, 135 pounds, black hair, unknown eyes
  • Suspect 2: 25-year-old black male, 6-feet, 225 pounds, black hair, unknown eyes
  • Suspect 3: 20-year-old black male, 5-foot-11, 220 pounds, dark hair, unknown eyes
