Powerful Pacific Storm To Bring Heavy Rain, Strong Winds To San Diego County

BREAKING: A flash flood watch, high surf warning and high wind warning are in the forecast for San Diego County.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – A flash flood watch, high surf warning and high wind warning are in the forecast for San Diego County as a powerful Pacific storm is set to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the region through Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for Friday, with the strongest winds expected between 2 p.m. and midnight. The high wind warning is in effect until 2 a.m. Saturday.

Winds will likely cause downed trees and power lines, property damage and dangerous boating conditions, forecasters said. Wind gusts could reach 70 miles per hour in local mountains, while seas are expected to peak at 17 feet and waves at local beaches could reach 15 feet.

According to the National Weather Service, two-day rainfall totals will likely be substantial, along with strong winds making for hazardous travel conditions. Heavy rainfall rates may cause flash flooding, debris flows and possible river flooding.

Snow levels, forecasters said, will start at 7,000 feet Friday morning, but then lower to around 5,000 feet by Saturday.

Forecasters said dry weather is expected to return Sunday, but light rain is possible Monday and again on Wednesday.
