BAY AREA, CA — A fishing trip turned deadly Thursday morning when a 25-foot boat slammed into rocks near the Golden Gate Bridge, capsized, and left one man dead and two others aboard with life-threatening injuries.

Daniel Zhengyu Qin, a 35-year-old San Jose resident, died during surgery at a Marin County hospital, according to authorities.

A 911 caller reported a boat in distress under the bridge at about 6:15 a.m. Thursday, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. The vessel struck rocks near the Golden Gate Bridge and capsized near Lime Point beside the bridge’s north tower.

One passenger was in cardiac arrest. Qin later died, while a second passenger remained in critical condition and the third was in stable condition, Southern Marin Fire District Battalion Chief Jason Golden said.

The SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit’s Major Accident Investigation Team is still investigating the crash.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said officials scheduled a forensic postmortem examination and routine toxicology testing for early next week.

Officials credited continuing joint training for the rapid response. Bay Area agencies regularly conduct marine drills, unified-command exercises, and shared-radio training for water rescues and other emergencies near the Golden Gate Bridge, according to the Fire Department.
