5 Things to Think About Before Posting Your Vacation to Facebook
We know, it's amazing to share your awesome vacation photos with friends and family on social media. But they aren't the only ones watching.

San Juan Capistrano, CA — It's officially time for vacation. Your bags are packed, your work auto-response email is set and you're ready to go.
Just don't post your plans over social media.
Statistics on social media crime show that in 2014 almost 80 percent of burglars have admitted to using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media to stalk prospective victims, and 54 percent of burglars shared that a posting status and whereabouts is the most common mistake a homeowner can make.

We're all thrilled for you that you're in the Bahamas. I'm sure that Hawaii is lovely this time of year. But coming home to a ransacked home will surely steal that vacation vibe. Keep the posting of your journey to yourself until you're home.
Stay Away From Vacation Selfies
As fun as selfies at the airport and pictures of your loved ones visiting vacation meccas across the globe can be, social media has become a method for burglars to discover who is away from home and for how long.
Check in to your Hotel, Just not over Facebook
Save the social media check-ins, tagging, location check-ins, Instagram and Snapchat picture downloads for when you return home, travel gurus say. Turn off your automated location geo-tag on your cell phone, too, as that can show when you're not at home.
Keep your Hands Free
Also, spending time away from social media while on vacation can recharge your batteries and encourage more "in-the-moment time" with your loved ones. Facetime with the ones who are right there in front of you without using your phones.
Tell Your Neighbors You're Away, Not Everyone Else
Let a trusted neighbor know that you're away, but keep that information off social media, police and AAA agree. Have someone keep an eye on your property, and let them know to alert authorities if something is amiss. Let yourself enjoy your vacation knowing that your nest is safe and secure until you return.
And have a safe and happy holiday weekend.
