LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Juan the Dino

Historian doesn't find the dinosaur replica very historical.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Juan the Dino

The recent correspondence from Janice and Jerry re the Dinosaur are excellent.

Here is a group that is really focused on preservation of the Los Rios Historic District and actually the whole of historic San Juan Capistrano. They know and fight to keep the historic integrity of San Juan in place and don't tolerate what is being done at Zoomars.

As a historian I fully support their efforts. I personally have nominated eight sites in San Juan Capistrano that are now on the National Register of Historic Places – among them is Los Rios Historic District.

It is not the Mission alone that is the main factor of history in San Juan – it is the whole city.

In a letter to the city the Orange County Historical Commission did voice their concern regarding this dinosaur that was "smuggled" in from the outside with no city approval and strongly feels that it has no place in San Juan Capistrano.
