UPDATE: All lanes are now re-opened, however, the off-ramp at Ortega Highway remains closed.

A seven-car accident just before Ortega Highway snarled northbound traffic for miles on the Interstate-5 Tuesday morning.

As of 8:30 a.m., only one lane, the No. 2 lane, was open to traffic. A Sig Alert will be in effect at least until 9 a.m., said Sgt. Chris Johnson of the California Highway Patrol.

Johnson had few details. The accident was first reported 7:38 a.m.

According to the CHP communications center, motorists trying to enter the northbound freeway at San Juan Creek Road were making U-turns at the on-ramp to exit the mess.

More information to come.
