For many East Bay families, a trip to the Castro Valley Christmas Tree Farm each year marks the start of their holiday season.

This year the farm, located just north of Castro Valley in the hills at the juncture of Redwood and Miller Roads opens November 23. It is scheduled to be open through December 16 on Wednesdays through Fridays from 12 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can get complete directions to the farm here.

It is recommended you check the farm's website first before coming, however, because they reserve the right to close early if there is a short supply of trees.

The tree farm has been in existence for over 40 years. You can read a history of it here.

For more information call 510-889-1992 during the Christmas operating season.
