The San Leandro Police Department will be looking for drivers and passengers who don’t buckle up during their “Click it or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign.
The campaign runs from May 21 to June 3 and is aimed at getting all California drivers and passengers to wear seat belts.
The minimum ticket for an adult seat belt violation in California costs $142. The minimum ticket for not properly restraining a child under 16 is $445.
Since “Click it or Ticket” debuted in California in 2005 police estimate that the state’s seat belt use rate has increased from 92.5 percent to a record high of 96.2 percent. The increase represents 1.25 million more vehicle occupants who have started buckling up during that time.
Police say don’t put your own life at risk, or the lives of your family or friends. Buckle up.
