FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

1. 

Where/When: Root Park (corner of Hays and East 14th streets); Saturday, April 30 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Explore the creek and learn about water, local animals and plants.

Pricing: Free

2.  TRI-VALLEY COMIC BOOK & COLLECTIBLE SALE

Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds; Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Why Go: This show features comics, toys and other collectibles. You and your kids can complete or start your collection.

Pricing: Adults $5, children $2, parking $8

3.  ZOOKIDS: SKINS AND SCALES

Where/When: Oakland Zoo; Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m.

Why Go: This program for ages 4 and 5 will teach kids how skins and scales help animals to survive in their habitats. Program includes a theme-based game, mini-hike, snack (grapes and apple juice), craft and free play.

Pricing:$20 for members; $23 for non-members. Pre-registration required.

Where/When: San Leandro Main Library; Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Enjoy a Children's Day/Book Day at the library packed with bilingual stories and songs, reading-related crafts, games and a free book to take home.

5.  KARATE KID MOVIE

Where/When: Bal Theatre in San Leandro; Saturday, April 30, at 7 p.m. (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.)

Why Go: Take your kids to see the original Karate Kid movie at the historic Bal Theatre. Plus, a raffle to win prizes!
