Polce Department Press Release: On Saturday, June 9, around 4:00 pm, police received a call from a citizen reporting a suspicious male coming out of the rear yard of a residence in the 700 block of Bancroft Avenue. When the citizen and her boyfriend confronted the male suspect, he ran north on Bancroft Avenue towards Dutton Avenue. The boyfriend followed this suspect while the citizen called the police.
The citizen provided the San Leandro Police Department with the suspect’s physical and clothing description. Responding officers spotted the suspect as he attempted to evade them, jumping fences into neighboring residences. The officers were able to apprehend the suspect after a short period of time. The suspect was later positively identified by the citizen who called the police.
When officers searched the exterior of the house where the subject was seen coming out of, they discovered a broken rear window. While on scene, another concerned citizen approached the officers and told them she heard the sound of breaking glass coming from the rear of this residence just before the police arrived.
Items just inside the window appeared to have been disturbed, indicating someone entered.
Interestingly, police responded to a residential burglary on the 500 block of Glen Drive earlier in the day, approximately two blocks south of this incident, where a rear window was also broken with a brick. Several items were stolen in that burglary.
The suspect, Terrell Sanders, an eighteen-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested and booked into the San Leandro Police Department jail on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest.
