According to police, around 10:30 a.m., an officer driving through a parking lot in the 1200 block of Marina Blvd. was alerted by a license plate reading system of a stolen car in the area.
Police say the car had been reported as stolen after a carjacking incident in Oakland earlier in the day. When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver refused and lead officers on a pursuit that ended with a foot chase of the suspects who tried to flee on foot in the area of E. 14th Street and Fairmont Drive. Officers were able to locate all five of the suspects and arrested them on suspicion of being in a stolen car.
Lt. Randall Brandt stated, "We are very pleased with the outcome in this case. The license plate reader helped us locate this victim's vehicle and then we were successful in arresting the occupants. We would like to thank the staff of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office who helped us locate the suspects during this investigation. We continue to have success when working collaboratively with our neighboring agencies."
