San Leandro Extends Business Tax Holiday to End of 2014
The decision was made to help further boost the economy in San Leandro, city officials said.
"The San Francisco Bay Area and local San Leandro economies are booming," stated Mayor Cassidy. "Entrepreneurs of all sizes - from major corporations to smaller start-ups - presently call San Leandro their home. We encourage a new wave of entrepreneurs to come to San Leandro, and we're happy to help them launch their business by waiving the City's license fee for the remainder of the year."
The Business License Tax Holiday was first initiated on September 1, 2013 and, so far, over 200 new businesses have taken advantage of the fee waiver. With the extension, virtually all businesses that are new to San Leandro, including start-ups and businesses re-locating from other areas, will be exempt from the fee through the end of 2014. The City is also waiving a zoning conformance review fee for new businesses. While it is still necessary for all businesses to acquire a business license, no fee will be charged for those that qualify for the program. The Business License Tax Holiday excludes out-of-City contractors, businesses not physically located in San Leandro, residential and commercial property owners, amusement devices, and waste disposal sites.
This program adds to an already expansive list of other benefits already offered to San Leandro businesses, including:
· The City's strategic location in the center of the Bay Area with easy access to transportation infrastructure and a world-class workforce;
· High-speed internet access via the Lit San Leandro fiber optic network;
· Flexible industrial space for innovation;
· Fast-track permitting; and
· Low costs of doing business
