Families of Women Killed in Limo Fire File Civil Lawsuits

The families of five women killed in a limousine fire on the San Mateo Bridge last May, as well as the surviving victims, filed civil lawsuits Thursday in San Mateo County in connection with the crash, according to KTVU.com.

The complaints do not specify a dollar amount in damages, but claim wrongful death and negligence on the part of several parties, including the Ford Motor Company.

The other defendants named in the lawsuits include Accubuilt Inc., Dabryan Coach Builders, Limo Stop Inc. and Bay Area Limousine Repair. The driver of the limo was not named in the lawsuits, KTVU.com reported.

Nine women, all nurses, were on their way to a bridal shower on May 4 when their limo burst into flames on the San Mateo Bridge.

The bride -- 31-year-old Fresno resident Neriza Fojas -- as well as her friends 35-year-old Michelle Estrera, 39-year-old Jennifer Balon, 46-year-old Anna Alcantara and 43-year-old Felomina Geronga were all killed.
