Marin County: 52,000 Election Day Votes Still Need to Be Counted

About 91,000 votes have been tallied so far, according to the County Elections Department.

MARIN COUNTY, CA -- Nearly 91,000 ballots from the Nov. 8 Election have been tallied by the Marin County Elections Department, but about 52,000 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots have yet to be counted.

Thus far, it’s a 56 percent turnout by Marin County voters, however, the Elections staff has until Dec. 6 to finish the counting and certify the election.

Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received within three business days after the election will be processed and counted, according to the County. As of close of business Nov. 14, about 2,000 more ballots were added to the mix.

Until all ballots are counted, the Elections Department says it will post updates to the online results by 5 p.m. each Friday until the election count is officially completed. “We know people are anxious, so we want to process the ballots as fast as possible,” County Registrar Lynda Roberts said. “We must also do a thorough and accurate job.”

On Nov. 9, the County Registrar started the official canvass, which is the process of preparing and tallying all ballots received in an election, including vote-by-mail ballots and provisional ballots not included in the election night count. The canvass also includes the process of reconciling ballots and performing the manual tally of 1 percent of all the precincts.
