MARIN COUNTY, CA -- The Special Olympics torch -- the Flame of Hope -- will make its annual trip through Marin County on Thursday on its way to the Special Olympics Summer Games.
On Thursday, June 16, law enforcement personnel and public safety partners from across Marin will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) to help raise funds for Special Olympics in Northern California.
Team Marin will provide an escort of runners for The Flame of Hope, carrying it from the Civic Center in San Rafael to the San Francisco side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Once across the Bridge, the torch will be passed to another LETR team.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. But it is so much more than a sports program, according to organizers.
It is training for life -- empowering these individuals with self-confidence and self-esteem that carries over into their day-to-day lives.
Currently nearly 18,000 Special Olympics athletes participate at no cost to the athletes or their families. This is made possible through the year-round fundraising events of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Through its grassroots fundraising efforts, LETR is the single largest supporter of Special Olympics in California.
