Two pickup trucks collided in a downtown San Rafael intersection Monday afternoon, leaving one driver complaining of pain, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a red Dodge pickup ran a red light at Fifth Avenue and Hetherington Street while heading eastbound on Fifth. The Dodge hit a Chevrolet almost right where Fifth Avenue goes under Highway 101.

Both trucks ended up crashing into a chain-link fence and pointing nose-down into the area directly under the highway. Traffic was temporarily slowed in the area as police officials closed multiple lanes on Hetherton and part of Fifth Avenue.

Paramedics treated the Chevy driver for pain and transported her to a local hospital.

San Rafael firefighters used chainsaws and worked with tow truck operators to pull the pickups back onto the street. Several people stood nearby, with phones out, taking photos of the incident.
