Park of the Week: Boone Acres Park

Plenty of sand and shade make Boone Acres Park one of the city's most popular parks.

One of San Ramon's biggest prides and joys is the city's amazing park system. Our city has a whopping 53 parks spread throughout our vast community, ranging from small neighborhood playgrounds to multi-acre, multi-feature parks.

Each week we'll be highlighting one of our city parks, showing you photos, listing park features, and telling you what's special about them. We have so many parks that it will take Patch more than a year to profile each of them. So if you have a special park you'd like featured next, let us know!

The park's shady six acres make a great sanctuary from the summer sun and contain several recreational features that are sure to please.

The majority of Boone Acres' space is made up of open parkland with large grass lawns, leafy trees for climbing or lounging under and even a dirt track, perfect for a short jog with man's best friend.

Youngsters enjoy riding their scooters and bikes along the hilly concrete paths that loop around the grassy areas near the playground.

In the middle of one grassy expanse is a full-sized volleyball court, complete with a standard net and a sand floor, a la beach volleyball. Onlookers can watch the rally from any of the five picnic tables that are located in a grove adjacent to the court. Each table is accompanied by its own barbeque and is shaded by the redwood canopy overhead.

Boone Acres also has a large playground area with three separate play structures, multiple swings and a large, sandy base. Fun extras like hopscotch, a tic-tac-toe game and a chart that teaches kids the Braille alphabet give this jungle gym a unique twist.

Plenty of shaded benches front the playground so parents can retreat from the sun while they watch their kids digging in the sand.

Men's and women's restrooms and a drinking fountain are located next to the playground equipment, only a short walk from the park's picnic area.
