TONIGHT: Grateful Deadheads Have Second Annual Movie Meetup April 19

The Regal Cinema 9 downtown will show a movie of a Grateful Dead concert from Alpine Valley in 1989. Expect it to sell out.

TONIGHT: Grateful Deadheads Have Second Annual Movie Meetup April 19

Rhino Records has found a way to get Grateful Dead fans back to concerts, 16 years after band leader Jerry Garcia passed away.

The enterprising oldies record label is showing full concerts from years back. This is the second year for what they are calling Grateful Dead Meet-up at the Movies.

It shows at 7 p.m. Thursday downtown.

This year's show is from Alpine Valley Music Theatre on July 18, 1989 and features the complete concert with two and a half hours of music including "Touch of Grey," "Bird Song," "Eyes of the World" and more. (Presumably this doesn't include the endless hours of tuning up between songs.)

Fans will also get an exclusive listen of an unreleased live track from Spring 1990 and a look at rare photos of the band from that  tour.

The movie plays at selected theaters across the country, for one night only.

Tickets are $12.50 each with a $1.25 service fee for each. Less of a rip-off than some shows.

You can buy tickets here.Or at the theater.
