Man Dies In River At Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
A man died Saturday in the Big Sur River that flows through the heart of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.
A man died Saturday in the Big Sur River that flows through the heart of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park south of Carmel, authorities said.
A man was reported needing help near a swimming hole in a part of the river known as the Gorge, said Chief Ranger Mike Dippel of the California State Parks Monterey District.
"Officers and lifeguards had to respond to attempt to rescue him and unfortunately, when they arrived on scene, the individual was deceased," Dippel said.

The man was declared dead about 1:54 p.m. His name and age were not disclosed.
The park is 26 miles south of Carmel.
