Santa Cruz Lifeguards Rescue 5 on Monday
Lifeguards in Santa Cruz and Capitola rescued five beachgoers in two separate incidents Monday, according to the Santa Cruz Fire Department.

The first incident occurred around 7 p.m. when lifeguards at Main Beach in Santa Cruz simultaneously rescued three people, fire officials said.

All three of the people were in the water having difficulty swimming and one was transported by ambulance to Dominican Hospital after nearly drowning.

The second incident occurred in Capitola, where Santa Cruz lifeguards assisted two people who were trapped by the incoming tide on rocks north of the Capitola Wharf.

Lifeguards worked with a rescue swimmer from the Central Fire Protection District to bring both people safely to the beach, fire officials said.
