A pedestrian suffered serious injuries to his entire body, including to his arms and legs, when he was struck Saturday evening by a moped on Wilshire Boulevard and Ninth Street, according to the Santa Monica Police department.
The 52-year-old man was taken to a local trauma center, where he is in serious but stable condition, said department spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis.
"The moped was travelling eastbound in the No. 1 lane of Wilshire," Lewis said, "and the pedestrian was crossing Wilshire Boulevard southbound in the east crosswalk when he was struck by the driver of the moped who failed to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk."
He was struck about 6:25 p.m. There is no traffic signal at the crosswalk.
The driver, a 32-year-old Santa Monica woman, suffered minor injuries after falling of the bike, but she remained at the scene, Lewis said.
