Woman recovering at local hospital after blaze breaks out Saturday afternoon in studio apartment near Colorado Avenue and Stanford Street.

Woman Burned in Apartment Fire

A female was burned Saturday in a house fire in Santa Monica, a city fire official said.

The fire was reported at 4:23 p.m. at a two-story home in the 3000 block of Colorado Avenue, according to Battalion Chief Judah Mitchell of the Santa Monica Fire Department.

Rescuers arriving at the scene reported heavy smoke coming from the back of the multi-unit home, Mitchell said.

The blaze, which was burning in the bathroom of an upstairs studio unit, was under control in seven minutes, Mitchell said. The unit where the fire began sustained moderate damage throughout, and nearby units had smoke and/or water damage, Mitchell said.

The tenant in the unit where the fire started sustained burns from the fire, and she was taken to St. Johns Hospital where she was treated and is expected to remain under observation, Mitchell said.

Other tenants escaped unharmed, and the American Red Cross was called out to help displaced residents.
