Gas Odor Prompts Evacuation At East County Elementary School

SDG&E crews remain at the scene.

EL CAJON, CA – Students at an East County elementary school were briefly evacuated Monday morning after reports of a gas leak that could not be found, officials said.

As a precaution, firefighters evacuated Crest Elementary School after a passerby reported a natural gas odor at the school on 2000 Suncrest Boulevard in El Cajon, according to Shayna Rians of San Miguel Fire & Rescue.

San Diego Gas & Electric received a report of a gas leak at the school around 9:30 a.m. Crews were on the scene by 9:48 a.m., SDG&E spokesman Joe Britton said.
