A new Santee charity, Naomi's Closet, is offering free clothing and other personal items to local women in need. Stop by and you'll find a room packed with all sorts of clothes, accessories and women of all ages excited by the opportunity to go "shopping," even if they can't afford the mall.

The charity is run on the grounds of the Santee United Methodist Church, in a purple tinged building that's been remodeled for the cause. Women can browse and pick out eight items of clothing, one pair of shoes and one purse each month.

The women don't need to prove they are in need, an honor system is used. They have high quality clothing that will fit teens to the elderly, and suitable for activities from a job interview to a day at the park with the kids.

Roben Partridge and Shinene Johnson, members of Santee United Methodist Church, founded the charity in July 2012 after Roben had a dream she interpreted as a sign from God. It is named after the Bible character Naomi, from the Book of Ruth.

They explain the name on their Facebook page:

"The Book of Ruth teaches us much about love and devotion. It also teaches us of Gods concern for our everyday needs and that he is working out his plan for salvation."

Naomi's Closet is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon and the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Clothing donations are accepted on those days as well, or can be dropped off in a bin out front of Naomi's Closet.

Also, the United Methodist Church hosts a monthly free pancake breakfast for those in need.
