Obituary: Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Bier

Santee resident and Sheriff's Deputy Anthony (Tony) Bier recently passed away after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

Tony worked two years for LAPD before joining the Sheriff's Dept. in 1984. He began his career working in the El Cajon Detention Facility, and then worked the and Lemon Grove Patrol Stations. Tony has been a Field Training Officer and a Corporal. During his career Tony received an Exemplary Performance and a Meritorious Unit Citation.

Tony has been described as a highly motivated deputy, dependable, a strong team player and was well liked by his co-workers. Tony was a deidcated employee and an excellent co-worker who always had a positive attitude. He enjoyed working for the Sheriff's Dept. and he will truly be missed by his friends and coworkers.

Tony is survived by four children Nathaniel Bier, Tiffany Bier-Ortiz, Steve Newark and Kristine Newark and three grandchildren Rowlan "Anthony" Ortiz, Kalie Jones and Joey Newark. His wife Cindy Newark-Bier succumbed to lung cancer three and a half years ago.
