The second to last concert in the “Music at Skypark” series will take place Sunday with the grooving sounds of popular Santa Cruz band Extra Large as the headliner.

Front man Russ Leal gets the crowd moving with his soulful and funky vocals, and along with a mix of flute, sax, bass, keyboards, guitar and percussion, it is no wonder this is one of the area’s favorite dance bands.

Reggae band A La Lune will take the stage before Extra Large.

The free concert series runs the last Sunday of each month through September and will benefit the music programs at Scotts Valley’s four public schools.

“We’ve lined up some terrific bands for this concert series,” said Joe Miller, one of the event organizers. “We hope people come hungry and support our concessionaires. Our aim is to raise a lot of money for the schools while providing a true family event for the community.”

Though the event is free, several local service clubs will sell barbecue dishes. Skov winery and a few local restaurants will also be selling food, beer and wine.

All the money from the concessions will go toward keeping the music programs at Scotts Valley High School, Scotts Valley Middle School, Vine Hill Elementary and Brook Knoll Elementary alive.

According to the concert sponsors, the Scotts Valley Arts Commission and the Scotts Valley Kiwanis Foundation, the approximately $7,000 raised at last year’s concert series is credited with maintaining the music programs at the schools.

The concerts are all from 3:30-7:30 p.m. at Skypark, 361 Kings Village Dr.

The last concert in the series is:

Sept. 25—My Stupid Brother and Le Strange (headliner)
