Last Thursday the children in Valley Presbyterian’s Pediatric Care Center/PICU were visited by Ironman and Princess Aurora from the Children’s Miracle Ministry. They received gifts such as stuffed animals, action figures, trains, learning tablets and more.

Children’s Miracle Ministry is a non-profit organization that has been supporting terminally ill children since its inception in 1999. Its mission is to visit children who are terminally ill and in recovery in select Southern California hospitals to deliver gifts presented by beloved characters such as superheroes, clowns and princesses.

“The staff is very wonderful and positive here at Valley Presbyterian Hospital and we hope to be back to do this every year.” noted Manfred K. Wallner, Children’s Miracle Ministry Regional Director.

Events like this are emblematic of the upgraded 25-bed Pediatric Care Center and 10-bed PICU at Valley Presbyterian. Recently remodeled to reflect the emotional as well as medical needs of children, each patient's room in the pediatric unit features a unique child-friendly mural and theme, as well as a plasma television and recliner for parents who wish to remain at their child’s bedside. Stocked with computers, books, easels, puzzles, board games, and video games, our new playroom allows the children to be kids as well as patients. Even the Center’s procedure room is designed to ease a child’s hospital experience with a hippo-shaped bed and bubble-blower.

Since opening the Valley’s first Pediatric Intensive Care Unit more than two decades ago, Valley Presbyterian Hospital has remained committed to providing stellar care for the children in the community and beyond.
