The South Gate Police Department (SGPD) has informed Patch that an arrest was made at 3:00 p.m. when an officer spotted a stolen vehicle on Tweedy Boulevard near San Gabriel Avenue.

“The officer ran the license plate and it came back stolen,” said Lieutenant Jim Teeples of the SGPD. “The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody for driving a stolen vehicle.”

The alleged stolen car was described by the SGPD as a 2011 Nissan Ultima. Officers in South Gate routinely run the license plates of suspicious vehicles.

“This is proactive police work,” said Lt. Teeples.

The SGPD described the suspect in custody as a male adult, and did not release more information.
