Metro, South Pasadena Residents Talk 710 Study

Metro stressed that it was examining all options to ease congestion along the 710.

Metro, South Pasadena Residents Talk 710 Study

South Pasadena residents wary of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan's environmental study for the 710 Freeway directed questions and comments at emissaries from Metro at a meeting earlier this week at the South Pasadena Library, with Metro officials emphasizing that it is looking at every possible traffic-relief option available, according to the Pasadena Sun.

Those options include the extension 710 to the Foothill (210) Freeway to adding light rail and bus routes. The city has been battling an extension for the better part of four decades with volleys of resolutions and lawsuits, the Pasadena Sun notes, with residents pointing to congestion and environmental health issues as the main concerns.

South Pasadena City Councilman Richard Schneider said he would support a rail and bus alternative, but said he was surprised that the freeway extension was still even being discussed when

“Why would you consider an alternative when you do not have the legal right?” Schneider said, according to the Pasadena Sun. “You have to get South Pasadena’s permission.”

Metro and Caltrans plan to hold an open house in Pasadena from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 30, inside the visitors' locker room at the  Rose Bowl. Attendees are asked to park in Lot F and enter through Gate A.
