Police: Honda Owners Beware

Multiple crime summaries dating to August includes a pre-2000 Honda stolen from South Pasadena streets - a crime representing a regional trend, according to a Los Angeles Police detective.

Police: Honda Owners Beware

Los Angeles police detectives today warned owners of pre-2000 Honda vehicles that their cars are prime targets of thieves -- a trend that bodes true in South Pasadena.

Of the cars reported stolen in South Pasadena since August, five have been Honda Accords or Civics, mostly the 1996 and 1997 models, according to South Pasadena Police Department's weekly crime bulletins.

Los Angeles Police Det. Felicia Crockett said Civics and Accords built before 2000 are "so dependable that many are still in use today. Unfortunately, as attractive as they are to their owners, they are highly attractive to thieves today."

She said the best defense against theft is a secure garage. But she also advised owners to park their cars in guarded and secure parking lots or well- lit areas.

Crockett also suggested that motorists use a theft-deterrent device, such as the Club.
