The black and white comedy short Whirls and Girl is the story of Harry (the stranger) and Andy (Henry- the Henpecked Husband) who get involved with flappers.

The movie was released by the director and producer Mack Sennett in February of 1929, months before the Wall Street crash that heralded the beginning of a 12-year Great Depression.

Sennett, son of Irish immigrant parents, known as “The King of Comedy,” won an Academy Award® in 1935 for his great influence on film comedy. He built the studio that is now and dubbed the area Studio City.

The film was 20 minutes in length and was released in 2 reels.

Mack Sennett directed this comedy short featuring three of his most popular stars (Clyde, Farley and Gribbon) as well as the popular Sennett Bathing Beauties.

Harry Gribbon began his career in silent films with Mack Sennett appearing in Mabel, Fatty and the Law, with Sennett's girlfriend Mabel Normand and close friend Fatty Arbuckle. He appeared in over 100 films, half of them without sound.

Carole Lombard began her career at the age of 12 with her first appearance in a silent film. She moved on to a theater troup in her teens and spent most of the 1920's working in low budget films and as one of the Sennett Bathing Beauties. She became a huge star in the 1930's and remained on top until her death in a plane crash in 1942 at the age of 33.
