Information from Salvation Army:

WHAT:        The Salvation Army will host a grand opening event for its new Kroc Corps Community Center in Suisun City. The 60,000-square foot facility will house an array of education, fitness, sports, faith, arts and supportive programs.

The health and wellness center component will have more than 90 exercise machines, basketball court and swimming pool. Residents can access the workout areas through a paid membership.

The community center is named after Joan Kroc, wife of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc. It was her vision to construct state-of-the-art recreational and arts facilities in underserved communities throughout the nation to ensure that all individuals have equal opportunities to grow their natural gifts and talents. In 2003, Mrs. Kroc passed away, and entrusted to The Salvation Army the largest gift ever given to a private charity for the express purpose of building and endowing Kroc Centers.

In all, the Suisun Kroc Center is a $44 million project, with $22 million for construction and a matching funding for an endowment.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the public will have a chance to tour the new facility.  There will be free barbecue, local band performances, zip-line activity and arts and crafts for the youth in attendance.
