By Bay City News Service

At least eight drivers have been arrested for driving under in the influence of drugs or alcohol during the first seven days of the winter crackdown on impaired driving in Solano County, according to police.

From Dec. 14 through Dec. 20, officers representing 11 county law enforcement agencies have arrested at least eight individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

DUI arrests during the same seven-day time period in 2011 are down from 22, police said.

The multi-agency DUI task force will continue to seek out impaired drivers on the roads of Solano County during the Christmas and New Year's weekends.

The California Highway Patrol will also deploy all available officers to locate impaired drivers during the holiday weekends.

The region-wide crackdown consists of multiple DUI/driver's license checkpoints and patrols.

Police, Sheriff and CHP officials have asked all motorists to report drivers they suspect to be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol by calling 911.

The crackdown is made possibly by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
