Alleged Apple Store Burglar Due in Court

Equonne Romon Howard was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of burglary and parole violation.

A Los Angeles man suspected of involvement in the drive-in, smash-and-grab burglary at the store in was expected in court Monday to answer charges of second-degree burglary and parole violation.

Equonne Romon Howard, 22, was caught about four hours after the burglary at the store at 40764 Winchester Road was reported Thursday morning.

The vehicle suspected as the one used to break into the store -- a blue BMW SUV -- was found badly damaged and abandoned in a parking lot at Ynez and Winchester roads.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Kevin McDonald, three suspects got out of the BMW  and started grabbing items off display shelves; as the three looted, the driver repeatedly rammed the security gate, which had clanked down behind the vehicle as it entered.

They all wore gloves, dark clothing covered their entire bodies and hooded sweatshirts were worn over heads and faces, McDonald said.

Howard was being held on no bail stemming from an out-of-county case.
