Big-Rig Fire Slows Traffic On 60 Freeway Through Badlands

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A tractor-trailer erupted in flames Friday on the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway just east of Moreno Valley, consuming most of the trailer before crews got the fire under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 2:55 p.m. on the eastbound 60 at Gilman Springs Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Multiple Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in the rig, with fire extending into nearby vegetation, according to the agency.

The occupants of the truck safely escaped the flames.

Firefighters quickly stopped the brush fire and fully knocked down the blaze in the truck about 3:20 p.m., according to officials at the scene.

No lanes were closed, but traffic was significantly impacted, with slowing through the Badlands because of the blaze, the CHP said.

Crews were expected to remain at the location, mopping up, until 4:30 p.m.
